About

When I was in fourth grade, the teacher asked us to write sentences with our spelling words. I went one step further and wrote mine as a story. My teacher told me I was going to be a writer, and I believed her. Over the years, I’ve dabbled in poetry, journaling, essays, memoir, nature writing and more. Every time I discovered a new skill or technique, I wanted to share it with other writers, so I started teaching classes through libraries, community colleges and the local university.

Now that I’m retired from the University of Northern Iowa Foundation, I’m delighted to devote my time to teaching classes in memoir, legacy writing, and nature writing. And, also to lead nature retreats through EarthWhispers Abbey.

My children and grandchildren feed my love of writing with beautiful journals and writing pens. In fact, a Moreno glass pen is what inspired the name of my business. My work has appeared in several anthologies and digital magazines. I’m a certified Life Legacy Facilitator, a member of Story Circle Network and National Association of Memoir Writers. I’ve led a local writers’ group for more than twelve years and co-lead the annual Cedar Falls Christian Writers Workshop. In addition, I’m a member of the national and local Audubon Societies, Hartman Reserve Nature Center and am the former director of the Cedar Valley Arboretum & Botanic Gardens.

Empowering people to discover their stories, playing with my Schnauzer, reading, taking contemplative walks and going on photographic excursions with my husband make every cell in my body smile.
